The Fringe Trend: Love it or Hate it?

You may have recently seen an uptick in fringe items on your Pinterest boards or any other design avenues you follow interior design. Fringe is, frankly, everywhere, and it’s a hot 2018 trend. But is it for you?

The term “fringe” can actually encompass a lot of things — not just tassels on the end of a blanket. That might be the first thing you’re thinking, and yes, fringe can look a lot like that. Fringe, in that sense, is usually used in more bohemian style mish-mosh design. You may even see a lot of fringe when you’re thinking of country design… Fringe cowboy boots anyone?

Fringe can be used in a variety of other places, too. Let’s take a look:

The “Fringe” Chandelier

There’s the fringe chandelier, and then there’s the “fringe” chandelier. One actually uses fabric fringe, while the other just looks like fringe. The fabric one can add a bit of boho or whimsy to your room, whereas the “fringe” chandelier can class up a lot of spaces — especially if said “fringe” is sparkly or metallic. Which one do you like best?

Fringe Pillows

Fringe pillows come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and might be the “just right” amount of fringe for most people. Fringe adds a nice textural element, and can be combined with a variety of other textures like knit. Try mixing and matching fringe pillows with regular pillows for the perfect fit.

Fringe Curtains

This is a cute idea for a space that needs just the right amount of *something* with the curtains. If you have cats, dogs, or children, you should definitely stay away from curtains with fringe on them — for both safety and sanity.

Fringe Furniture

This one is certain to turn some heads and is definitely not for everyone. Many furniture pieces can be ordered that have fringe added to the bottoms or other elements of them. They may be a bit too retro for some people, but in certain spaces have the potential to look just right.
