Storage space is a sticking point for a lot of designers. You can see a lot of sweeping, beautiful, minimalistic interior design spaces, but after you get past the “wow” factor you may be wondering where do those spaces keep everything?Continue reading
The key to successful design is working collaboratively with clients to create beautiful spaces that meet their needs while matching their personal style and budget. We are pleased to announce that two of our clients have been selected to share their homes on the 2016 Palace Theatre Kitchen Tour.
Our first home on the tour is a charming Manchester North End colonial, built in 1904. When the client decided to add an addition, j. ellen Design was brought in to assist with designing the kitchen, pantry and mudroom. We worked collaboratively with the homeowner to create a family-friendly space that combined traditional elements with a strong sense of color and a bit of whimsy. The family wanted the space to be welcoming and functional for their young family of five, but also sophisticated and “party ready” for entertaining. One of the showstoppers in the space is the 110-inch island in a ‘Union Jack’ blue topped with a striking slab of Super White Granite. The addition of the pass-through butler’s pantry provides plenty of storage, a prep area for entertaining, and the family’s favorite ice maker! The entire space is anchored with a beautiful herringbone patterned tile floor.
Our second home on the tour is a spacious, yet cozy new construction in Bedford. Upon entering the home, you will be greeted in the stunning foyer, boasting a beautiful turned staircase and warm walnut floors. After taking a few more steps, you will find yourself in the kitchen–the heart of this open concept home. This French Country inspired kitchen was designed to incorporate the beautiful curved custom range hood and a large kitchen island with built-in bench seating and countertop seating! This kitchen also incorporates additional elements including a hand painted tile backsplash, Phillip Jeffries woven wall covering to add a subtle texture and the burnt orange valances bring color while framing the beautiful landscape. Don’t forget to peek into the butler’s pantry to see the stunning walnut countertop and hammered copper sink.
No matter what your style, the team at j. ellen Design will work closely with you to deliver results that are functional, beautiful and within your budget.
We invite you to see our work on this year’s Palace Theatre Kitchen tour on June 5, 2016. We all dream of that perfect space and what it means to us. Will it be inspiring, relaxing, energizing.. or maybe all of the above! I have always found nature to be a huge inspiration for me and on a recent trip to the Chicago Botanic Gardens, this Samurai Warlord Retreat seemed perfect. It is perched over a pond with amazing views. For me, it felt peaceful, inspiring and energizing. I found myself enjoying a perfect summer day with family while dreaming about how wonderful it would be to be able to retreat to such an amazing space. I would draw, work on client projects, read a book or simply take a refreshing cat nap while enjoying my surroundings.
While this may not be the most practical space for someone who lives in New Hampshire, there are elements that I am able to work into my current living and work spaces to create the open, airy feeling that inspires me.
What inspires you? Think about how you want your space to feel and begin to incorporate objects that will continue to inspire, relax or energize you. Need some help? Call j. ellen Design and let me help guide you in finding and expressing that inspiration.
Your guests are arriving soon and it is time to get their room ready! Show them you care and create a cozy, relaxing space for them.
When preparing your guest room, think of the last time you stayed at a hotel, what did you love most of all? For me it was the wonderful mattress, high thread count sheets, comfy duvet and lots of fluffy pillows. Having an extra blanket available is always a nice touch!
If you have a dresser or closet in the room, be sure to leave some space for your guests to unpack and get comfortable. If you don’t have room in the closet, consider an over the door hook with some coat hangers. A luggage rack is also a nice touch.
Don’t forget about night tables with a reading lamp for guests to snuggle up with a good book at the end of a busy day. Provide books or reading material that offer a local flair. If your guests will be venturing out on their own, add a basket or folder with maps and brochures for nearby attractions and restaurants.
Place a bathrobe, towel and washcloth (for each guest) either on the bed or in a basket to have them readily available for guests when they are ready to shower.
Don’t forget the bathroom! Place a basket of sample size toiletries and necessities that they may have forgotten. Use apothecary jars for easy access to q-tips and cotton balls.
Just before guests arrive, pick up some tulips from the local grocery store, cut the stems and drop them in a vase. Add a short welcome note to give your guests any special information they may need – don’t forget your WIFI password!
With the room ready, you will be able to focus on visiting with your family and friends.
For the past few months j. ellen Design has been busy! We are part of the fantastic team that is making Pellé, NH Center for Laser and Medical Aesthetics, a reality. Opening in Fall 2013, Pellé is a premiere destination medical spa based right out of our hometown of Manchester, NH. Pellé is pulling out all the stops to provide patients with safe, high end treatments in a comfortable and relaxing environment. Naturally, interior design is essential to help Pellé meet these goals. That’s where we stepped in.
The location of Pellé is ideal, serving both southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. The biggest challenge was taking this former warehouse space and transforming it into a destination medical spa. j. ellen Design happily took on the challenge of transforming this vacant space into a warm, welcoming, and safe environment. The colors, interior finishes, materials and exterior landscaping all aided in completely transforming this space.
The two tones of paint in the waiting area are from Sherwin Williams. Foggy Day is a rich, cool blue that when combined with Ramie, a cream/beige, creates a beautiful relaxing environment for all clients. The goal for this space was to create an eclectic design scheme, incorporating pieces from different time periods and different styles. This helped to make a harmonious space that will be welcoming to all of Pellé’s clients.
