One of the very first things people see when they come to your home is your front door. While you can spruce up your exterior door with a wreath, home numbers, or even with platers or other decorations, nothing quite makes a statement like a brightly colored door.
The story goes that a red painted door in the US meant that travelers were welcome at that house. If someone needed a place to stay, they would know to knock on a red door and have a place to rest their head for the night. In other instances, a red door may have meant that the home was part of the underground railroad and a safe space for escaping slaves. Painted doors have become more of an accent than anything these days, so you can choose to paint your door any color you like. Use your door color to show off a fun and bright accent, or make it blend into your home.

One of my favorite types of design to look at is what I call “surreal” interior design. This type of interior design is not very practical for most spaces, but when you see it, it can certainly leave you feeling quite awe-struck. Surreal interior design is great because even though many of the elements of it can be very over-the-top, sometimes it can be dwindled down to its essence and used in functional spaces. Let’s take a look at some amazing surreal interior design!
Old Clock Tower Converted to Penthouse
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to live inside of Big Ben, then this penthouse is for you. While not everyone can have a giant clock in their wall, this penthouse owner is lucky enough to get to look out over the city through a clock-shaped window. One photo doesn’t do this penthouse justice, definitely check out the article with all the photos of this fantastical space.
Whimsical Pool & Swimming Club
Who knew that a swimming space could be converted into something so fantastical? The images of this swimming club in Suzhou, China look like something straight out of a fantasy set – maybe a lot like Willy Wonka’s factory! Definitely check out all of the images of this fantastic place.
A Different World When the Lights are Off
Artist Bogi Fabian paints near-invisible UV reactive paint on walls so they change from one thing to the next when the lighting changes. Drab, white walls can convert into a beautiful space scene when blacklight lighting is introduced. These fantastical and surreal spaces aren’t for everyone, but are beautiful examples of changing interior design to fit needs. From night clubs to bedrooms, Fabian creates murals for small and large spaces alike.
Out-Of-This-World Family Park Design
Another amazing place in China, the Neobio Family Park in Hangzhou, China is another whimsical space with lots of visual interest and places for people to talk and play. This versatile space has lots of different areas of use, with a lot of soft color that feels like it’s of a different time period or even an entirely different planet! This bright and cheery spot is a great place to gather or bring people.
